Bullet Resistant Tyres!

about1.gif (17501 bytes)
On Monday, 25 June, 2001, at a secret location in Surrey, the future of the pneumatic tyre as we know it, was changed drastically by a product called Ultraseal! !
In their endeavour to achieve recognition for their product, Ultraseal, in conjunction with numerous ballistics experts, achieved the seemingly impossible and made an ordinary pneumatic tyre bullet resistant. The result of the testing programme culminating in June was an amazing achievement, and "a world first for a tyre safety product."

about2.gif (19614 bytes)

about3.gif (16717 bytes)
This exacting standard maintained that Ultraseal had to be effective in the control of air pressure loss from a tyre, whilst allowing the vehicle (in this case a Range Rover) to be driveable (safely) for a sufficient distance to remove the vehicle from the immediate threat.
The threat in question was being shot at from a distance of 10-metres with 7.62 and 5.56 NATO rounds, a 9mm round, and finally a 12g (1oz) solid 15mm diameter shotgun slug, all of which Ultraseal coped admirably with - much to the amazement of those in attendance, most of the damage inflicted by the ammunition was sealed with very little air loss! !

One ballistic expert said, "I have just witnessed the birth
of one of the most amazing products I have ever seen..."

What Is Ultraseal?

A TYRE LIFE EXTENDER/CONDITIONER, & PERMANENT PRE PUNCTURE PREVENTATIVE

Ultraseal is a special blend of 24 chemicals in a viscous liquid state which coats and clings to the inner wall of the tyre. Utraseal is a "permanent" puncture preventative and tyre life extender/conditioner, and we believe the only product on the market today that is guaranteed to work very long term in a high-speed tyre. Previously available products (and most current ones) have simply "fallen apart" at speeds of 40 mph and over, because they were manufactured for the construction industries slow vehicles, but eventually made their way into the high-speed markets creating problems. Ultraseal is not a get you home product, it is applied before the puncture occurs, and permanently seals puncture after puncture in the tyre as they occur. Once installed, Ultraseal not only seals punctures, it conditions the inner casing, preventing porosity leaks caused by tiny holes and cracks. In other words after installing Ultraseal the tyres maintain correct air pressure and the need to regularly top up with air is virtually eliminated, and with correctly inflated tyres you get better fuel economy, your tyres also run cooler eliminating that killer problem of devastating heat build-up. Tyres treated with Ultraseal last considerably longer, and unlike temporary sticky oil based sealants, Ultraseal is water based for easy clean out if ever you need to do this. Ultraseal is installed in minutes through the tyre valve with very little air loss and without removing any wheels.

WHAT MAKES ULTRASEAL DIFFERENT TO TYRE SEALANTS THAT HAVE PROVEN NOT TO WORK?

Technology! Sealants have caused many problems that we at Ultraseal have addressed. Using a highly evolved mixture of chemicals, we have devised a product that is more than capable of working in harmony with today's modern breed of vehicles. We have included a patented thixotropic emulsion (Thixogel™ ) that bonds the molecules of the product together at speeds up to 150mph, thus allowing the driving complete flexibility. Previously available products, and most current ones, have simply "fallen apart" at around 55-65mph.

ULTRASEAL’S ABILITIES & PERFORMANCE DOES NOT DIMINISH WITH SPEED, DISTANCE OR TIME.

Ultraseal does not have any of the failings that previous and many present products have. Apart from drying and balling up in the tyre, the biggest failings of traditional tyre sealants in a high speed tyre, was the inability to seal small holes, but the ability to seal a large dangerous hole or cut, because they contained large chunks of chopped up rubber. Whereas Ultraseal contains only tiny strands of coarse surface synthetic fibres that are stronger than steel when they interlock tightly together, but will only positively seal small holes caused by puncturing objects up to 6mm in diameter, but only in a hole that is in the tread area of the tyre, and that is shrinking in size because there is no cord damage (rubber recovery), which is 95% of today's high speed punctures. Anything bigger, or in the sidewall, with or without cord damage, and the Ultraseal fibres just slowly bleed through the hole, giving a controlled deflation, and usually with a halt or abrupt slow down in air pressure loss at the lower pressures of 10 to 15 psi (depending on cord damage) which prevents damaged rims, and helps the driver maintain control possibly enabling continuation of the journey to remove the vehicle from a possibly dangerous location.

Through Ultraseal International Inc.'s, extensive research and development efforts, our proprietary formulation has progressed far beyond the parameters of what is commonly known as a tyre sealant. Ultraseal is a true tyre life extender and also a puncture preventative.

The Ultraseal Research & Development Team developed an unrivalled proprietary process that has yet to be duplicated.

Ultraseal is a proven preservative for increasing tyre longevity and retreadability and will reduce premature tyre failure by 70% or more. We have reports from retreaders of casing rejection being reduced by over 50%. This achievement is unheard of in the tyre industry.

Ultraseal converts any pneumatic tyre into a self-sealing tyre that will maintain air pressure. Ultraseal has the unique ability to coat the entire inner surface of a tyre and rim without succumbing to shear and stress associated with centrifugal force that is created within a high speed rotating tyre. Ultraseal's attributes are unparalleled in the history of the pneumatic tyre.

DESCRIPTION

Once Ultraseal has been installed, it lies dormant at the bottom of the tyre until the vehicle is first driven. Once driven a minimum of three to five miles, Ultraseal disperses throughout the inner air cavity and forms a coating on the entire inner surface of the tyre/rim assembly. The flexing of the tyre and the normal heat build-up allows Ultraseal to seek out and eliminate common air loss problems (referred to as porosity, air migration and bead leaks). Ultraseal then transforms the tyre assembly into a sealed air chamber, capable of maintaining proper air pressure. Thereafter, Ultraseal conditions the rubber in order to retard dry rot and aging (hardening) of the casing. One treatment will provide additional longevity and cooler running tyres for the legal tread life of the tyre.

The advanced technological sealing capabilities of Ultraseal stand on guard to seal punctures as they occur. When a tyre is punctured, Ultraseal coats the surface of the penetrating object, thus preventing air loss.

Whenthe puncturing object is removed, the rubber recovers and the wound immediately closes, escaping air siphons Ultraseal into the wound. The fibres entwine to create a clot that prevents any additional air from escaping. As the rubber recovers, the wound closes and the strength of the tyre holds the seal in place. The specialized polymers and fibres form the clot, thereby producing an airtight seal. The small amount of Ultraseal that penetrates through the wound, past the belts and out through the tread area is referred to as a clot. Once exposed to the atmosphere, the clot begins a systematic chemical cure (another proprietary attribute from the Ultraseal R&D Team). As the clot cures, it makes a positive secure seal that is impervious to water, which totally protects the belts and inner casing from outside contaminants and corrosion.

Ultraseal's formulation contains Thixogel™, one of our closely guarded secrets, which allows Ultraseal to withstand heat and the shear forces created within a rotating tyre. The thixotropic emulsion stretches and recovers under mild to severe exposure of the adverse forces and continuously clings to the inner surface of the tyre/rim. The ability to evenly coat the inner surface against adverse conditions and centrifugal force is the reason that Ultraseal Tyre Life Extender/sealer will not adversely affect a balanced tyre/rim assembly and does not lose the ability to provide protection for the tread life of the tyre. Ultraseal's operating temperatures under normal conditions range from -40°F to + 302°F.
Ultraseal's abilities & performance is not diminished with speed, distance or time.

SEALING CAPABILITIES

If If the tyre's integrity is weakened to a point where the tyre and casing are unsafe, Ultraseal is designed to bleed and slowly release air pressure if the puncturing object has severely damaged the inner structure.

Ultraseal will not hide or mask a dangerous wound regardless of how small the damage may be. If the integrity of the casing has been breached and safety becomes an issue Ultraseal is designed to allow air to escape in a controlled manner. This attribute has been confirmed through extensive testing by the U.S. Army, at the Army Proving Grounds, in Yuma, Arizona.

COATING AND CONDITIONING

Ultraseal coats and clings to the tyre's entire inner air cavity, conditioning the inner surface, eliminating air migration caused by porosity and bead leaks.

It is imperative that the proper amount of Ultraseal be installed in a tyre (refer to application chart). In order for Ultraseal to function, the vehicle should be driven approximately 3 to 5 miles (it is not required to immediately drive the vehicle). This initial driving allows the tyre to warm up and the Ultraseal to distribute. Unlike conventional tyre sealants, Ultraseal contains Thixogel™, which has been developed to prevent migration from the rim and sidewalls to the tread area at high speeds.

STANDS ON GUARD

Once the initial driving/usage period has been attained; Ultraseal will be thoroughly distributed throughout the entire inner surface of the tyre/rim.

Ultraseal is a proprietary liquid coating that never deteriorates within the tyre and will continuously stand on guard to protect tyres against air loss for the legal tread life of the tyre.

WILL NOT CURE OR HARDEN INSIDE OF THE TYRE

People often ask, "If Ultraseal cures from exposure to outside air, then why doesn't it cure by the air inside of the tyre?" Ultraseal transforms the tyre and rim into a sealed air chamber. As the vehicle is driven and the temperature of the tyre increases, a portion of the liquid base vaporises within the tyre assembly's inner air cavity, as the tyre cools, the moisture condensates back into the formula. The inside air actually becomes part of the system. The sealed air chamber prevents outside air from entering or inside air from escaping. Constant air pressure maintenance is not required. We recommend that tyres and air pressure be inspected during routine Preventative Maintenance programs. Ultraseal's ability to maintain constant air pressure does not relieve the driver from conducting visual inspections prior to each trip.

POSITIVE SECURE SEAL

When a tyre is punctured, Ultraseal is forced against and around the puncturing object by the inner air pressure, thereby preventing air from escaping. If the puncturing object is thrown out of the tyre by centrifugal force or is pulled out, the inside air forces Ultraseal into the wound and immediately stops air loss. Special fibers entwine, forming a clot, then as the rubber recovers, aided by the tyre flexing as it rotates, the inner air pressure forces the clot well into and through the wound. Once Ultraseal is exposed to the outside air, a chemical curing process begins. The cured clot extends well into the wound, thus providing a seal that is impervious to water (rain, snow, mud, etc.). As this clot cures, it is transposed into a permanent rubberised seal, protecting the inner casing and steel belts against contaminants entering the wound. No other tyre sealant manufacturer has ever been able to duplicate the Ultraseal attributes.

Ultraseal Accomplishments

LUNAR MOON BUGGY

Testing was conducted in desert areas where the vehicle encountered a great deal of cactus and mesquite thorns, resulting in many flats and costly delays in the scheduled test program. NASA purchased Ultraseal for the Lunar Moon Buggy's pneumatic test tyres during R&D testing on Earth.

Ultraseal prevented flat tyres during the balance of the research and development phases. Since there is no atmosphere on the moon, the vehicle was fitted with non-pneumatic circular tyre shaped mesh wire frame units with a thin material for the tread.

UNITED STATES NAVY TESTS

In 1975, the U.S. Naval Sea Bees performed an extensive in-field test on Ultraseal. After passing all tests and evaluations Ultraseal was authorised to be installed in Sea Bee construction equipment and miscellaneous vehicles all over the world.

Ultraseal has been the only tyre sealant to qualify and be established as standard issue in the Sea Bee's deployment packs for all missions

Flat tyres were virtually eliminated in the construction equipment used to build and rebuild roads, bridges, airstrips and other specialised missions. The command was so impressed with the results that National Stock Numbers (NSN) were issued for Ultraseal Tyre Life Extender/conditioner.
Ultraseal International has maintained NSN numbers ever since 1975. Ultraseal has passed all military test programs and continues to supply all facets of the U.S. Armed Forces and the Government Services Administration (GSA) fleet.

UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE CERTIFICATION

In 1993, representatives from GSA, EPA and the Postal System established a Generic Tyre Sealant Specification that set the world's first standard for tyre sealants

Safety, Compatibility and Performance (minimum 20,000 miles) were the basic requirements for a new/unused tyre sealant. The specification also required safety and compatibility re-testing of the used tyre sealant, upon completion of the 20,000 miles. re-testing of the used tyre sealant, upon completion of the 20,000 miles.

With the approval of the Postal Service, Ultraseal International contracted with the testing facility to have the performance portion of the test
extended to 40,000 miles. No other sealant has been able to meet this rigorous performance record.

Ultraseal Tyre Life Extender/conditioner is certified and approved for all US postal vehicles.

100,000 MILE - INDEPENDENT TRUCKING COMPANY TEST

An independent long haul trucking firm in conjunction with a fleet maintenance consulting firm establish a two and one half year test program which included installing Budini computer chips into tyres to scientifically document the advantage and cost effectiveness of Ultraseal.

Comparing tyres treated with Ultraseal against tyres containing only air, this program ran for
over 100,000 miles. All tyres treated with Ultraseal maintained air pressure and achieved a minimum of 25% increase in tyre life over the untreated tyres.

MAJOR TELEPHONE COMPANY (ONE YEAR CASE STUDY)

A one year case study by the largest telephone company in South California (over 1,000 vehicles), showed that Ultraseal reduced flat tyres by over 90%. Ultraseal thereby eliminated a tremendous amount of downtime and lost work hours. Plus, eliminating most tyre related road service calls.

Throughout the year all tyres maintained constant air pressure (within one pound of the initial setting). Computer analysis estimated a fuel savings of 10% - 13% (mostly due to the constant air pressure maintained by Ultraseal). Current documentation indicates that average tyre life extension is expected to be
increased well over 30%.

BULLET PROOFING COMBAT VEHICLES

An Army HUMMV tyre treated with Ultraseal's Extra Heavy Duty grade (combat formula) survived a shot through the sidewall with a 7.62 NATO round during the U.S. Army Combat Tyre Survival Program at the Nevada Test Centre. The bullet entered and exited through both of the tyre's sidewalls and Ultraseal sealed the wound instantly, with no measurable air loss.

The photo below shows one of the training programs established at Ft. Irwin by Ultraseal International. All branches of the U.S. Military from all over the world have benefited in similar training programs provided by Ultraseal over the last 25 years.

SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERNMENT TEST

Ultraseal passed extreme flammability and flash point testing performed by the South African Government and is the only sealant approved for use in tyres on deep mining equipment.

MOSCOW TYRE RESEARCH INSTITUTE TEST

In 1996, Ultraseal International received certification of acceptance by the Moscow Tyre Research Institute (MTRI). The Tyre Research Institute tested all foreign and domestic tyre sealants including Ultraseal Tyre Life Extender/conditioner and concluded that Ultraseal is the only tyre sealant to perform according to the manufacturer's specifications. Ultraseal is the only tyre sealant recommended by the " MOSCOW TYRE RESEARCH INSTITUTE".

FEDERALLY RECOGNISED TYRE TESTING LABORATORY

In 1993 the U.S. Postal Service introduced stringent tyre sealant regulations in order for any such product to be installed into their 750,000 vehicles. Ultraseal International contracted one of the foremost independent laboratories for testing tyres (recognised by tyre manufacturers, the U.S. Government and listed as approved by the U.S. Postal Service) to perform a 40,000-mile tyre sealant test. The endurance and performance portion of this test doubled the mileage required for certification by the U.S. Postal Service and up to now (2002) no other tyre sealant company has passed the U.S. Postal Service tyre sealant test.

No1 RETREADING COMPANY IN THE WORLD

Their R&D division performed tests to verify Ultraseal's claims of "Maintaining air pressure" and "The ability to provide a positive secure seal".

They indicated that Ultraseal proved to have
100% air retention and the punctures inflicted on the test tyres did not lose air throughout the testing program. They had never seen a tyre sealant that performed as well as Ultraseal.

WORLD'S LARGEST PRODUCER OF STEELBELT MATERIAL

Performed rust and corrosion testing. The results prove that Ultraseal's steel belt rust inhibiting system will prevent rust/corrosion from damaging the highly susceptible steel used in the manufacture of steel belts in radial tyres.

TWO MAJOR TYRE MANUFACTURERS TESTED ULTRASEAL

Two of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world have independently tested Ultraseal. Ultraseal passed all testing with flying colours. The results add to the claim that Ultraseal Tyre Life Extender/conditioner is by far the finest tyre sealant in the world.

ALL THE YEARS OF TESTING

All testing has proven that Ultraseal is actually a true tyre life extender as well as an exceptional puncture sealant. Ultraseal International, Inc. maintains copies of the various independent test programs that will substantiate the claims of positive air retention, positive secure seals, and ability to extend tyre life, endurance and performance.

Benefits and Attributes

EXTENDS TYRE LIFE

Ultraseal has been tested and proven to maintain air pressure, retard aging within the casing, reduce heat build-up and increase tyre life.

PROTECTS AGAINST UNDERINFLATION

Ultraseal has the ability to eliminate porosity, air migration and seepage, thereby allowing the tyre to maintain proper air pressure, which in turn will prevent rolling resistance and heat build-up, the biggest cause of high fuel consumption and tyre failure. For retreaders this also prevents the inception of most tread separations & zipper ruptures.

INCREASES RETREADABILITY

Ultraseal has the ability to protect against the inception of tread and ply separations caused by air migration between the plies of new and retread tyres, thereby resulting in additional retread cycles and extended casing life.

RETARDS DRY ROT AND CASING DEGRADATION

Ultraseal has the ability to reduce and retard dry rot and aging from within the tyre, which increases the life of any tubeless tyre casing.

HEAT REDUCTION (No. 1 KILLER OF TYRES

Ultraseal assists in protecting tyres from devastating heat build-up, which is associated with friction caused by under inflation, and/or overloading. Ultraseal contains specific ingredients that aid in conducting heat away from the tyre, by transmitting additional heat to the rim (which is the tyre's natural heat sink), resulting in a cooler running tyre for any type of equipment or vehicle, regardless of use.

SAFETY FACTOR

Ultraseal provides safety factors that are not found in any tyre. Ultraseal will not mask or hide damage that has breached the integrity of the tyre. Ultraseal is specially formulated to allow any serious puncture (potentially dangerous) to slowly deflate in a controlled manner. This attribute provides safety and aids in alleviating the hazards associated with blowouts. Ultraseal cannot create a secure seal in any tyre that has major internal damage, regardless of the puncturing object's diameter. This is because Ultraseal needs rubber recovery in order to work effectively. Cords play a vital part in rubber recovery, but in a wound that has damaged cords Ultraseal and air will slowly bleed out of the tyre giving the driver a controlled deflation.

LASTS THE LIFE OF THE TYRE

Ultraseal contains Thix-o-gel™ a proprietary process that protects the sealant against heat and provides the ability to overcome the centrifugal force of a rotating tyre. Ultraseal’s abilities & performance does not diminish with speed, distance or time.

PROTECTS THE ENTIRE INNER SURFACE OF THE TYRE

Ultraseal's Thix-o-gel™ provides a coating that clings to the entire surface of the tyre/rim assembly. The sidewalls including every square inch of the inner air cavity, retain a 0.050 coating of the product (approximately the thickness of a 50 pence), thereby providing protection for the tyre at all times.

POSITIVE SEALING CAPABILITIES

Ultraseal seals are positive and secure, thereby transforming any tyre into a self-sealing tyre. Ultraseal is capable of sealing tread area punctures caused by puncturing objects up to 6 mm (1/4") in diameter, as long as the puncturing object has not severely damaged and/or weakened the tyre's structural integrity. Ultraseal cannot create a secure seal  in any tyre that has major internal damage, regardless of the puncturing object's diameter.

WATER-SOLUBLE (for easy clean up)

Ultraseal is completely water-soluble in its liquid state, and leaves no residue when rinsed with plain water. Yet it will not dissolve within a wound after it has cured. Standard repairing procedures can be utilised without additional effort.

PROTECTION AGAINST RUST AND CORROSION

Ultraseal contains a complete rust and corrosion inhibiting system that not only protects steel and alloy wheels, but in a wound, Ultraseal's proprietary process will also protect steel belts. Outside contaminants are prevented from leaching back into the wound, which would cause the steel belts to rust and the ply's to separate. Without Ultraseal's protection, the contaminants would quickly destroy valuable casings.

CANNOT CREATE A BALANCE PROBLEM

Treating a tyre with the recommended amount of Ultraseal does not provide for an excessive amount of product to accumulate in the tread area, therefore the tyre is not subjected to a mass of substance that would create an imbalance. Ultraseal cannot create an imbalance due to the unique ability to evenly coat the entire inner surfaces of the tyre/rim assembly (0.050 coating) subjected to normal centrifugal force.

If the suspension is worn beyond specified tolerance, or a tyre/rim assembly is not balanced and/or trued, the abnormal centrifugal force generated will have enough gravitational force to pull Ultraseal off the vertical surfaces and collect in the problem area thereby increasing the "existing" imbalance problem. If the problem is severe enough the driver will feel a vibration. The vibration indicates that a problem pre-existed in the tyre assembly or suspension prior to installing Ultraseal. Ultraseal International recommends that the balance and trueness of a tyre assembly and/or the worthiness of the front suspension be verified, prior to the installation of Ultraseal.

CERTIFIED FOR U.S. FEDERAL POSTAL VEHICLES

In 1993, representatives from GSA, EPA and the Postal System established a Generic Tyre Sealant Specification that set the world's first standard for tyre sealants. Safety, compatibility and performance (for a minimum of 20,000 miles) were the basic requirements for the new/unused product. The Specifications also required safety and compatibility re-testing of the used product, upon completion of the 20,000 miles.

With the approval of the Postal Service, Ultraseal International contracted for the performance portion of the test to
double the mileage of the specification.

Ultraseal was certified and approved as a result of completing a
40,000-mile test performed by one of the Postal Service approved independent tyre testing laboratories.

ELIMINATES MOST FLATS AND BLOWOUTS

The majority of flats and blowouts are a result of driver negligence. The number one cause being excessive heat generated from under inflation. The overheated, under inflated tyre becomes soft and can be penetrated very easily. However, under inflation creates additional problems such as tread separations, ply separations and zipper ruptures. All of the above is primarily caused by porosity (natural air migration) which exists in all tyres to some degree.

Ultraseal eliminates air migration and prevents the majority of damage created by under inflation, thereby preventing most related blowouts. The sealing capabilities of Ultraseal are unparalleled by any tyre sealant, worldwide.

WILL NOT VOID TYRE WARRANTY

Ultraseal International, Inc. has documents from all major tyre manufacturers stating that Ultraseal does not void their warranties. In 30 years of business there has never been a report of Ultraseal causing a new tyre warranty rejection or a retread casing rejection. Ultraseal's chemical composition is completely compatible with all tyre components.

COMPATIBLE WITH ALL RETREAD METHODS

Ultraseal conditions the casing and retards aging. Plus, the ability to be thoroughly cleaned out of the tyre assures no hindrance for inspection. The product is non-hazardous, non-flammable, does not present a disposal problem and has no compatibility problems.
